Humans Worst Invention

Since the dawn of humans there have been many inventions. Inventions that were mesmerizing, life changing, and some are just downright dumb. The airplane for instance has allowed us to travel across the world in a matter of hours which used to take months. This was a great invention. Something happened rather sad in the mid 2000’s.

Social media happened. Since the invention of social media mental health has declined, laziness has increase, and more time is wasted. There is no other place more glorious for a bully. Sitting as home, on the bus, or at school/work hiding behind a screen one is so brave they will say anything to anyone. Most of the time the anything does more harm than good. Look at the latest political battles raging on Capitol Hill.

In my most recent internet search ‘bully twitter by politician’ Trump’s Twitter account was the 5th result. Modifying the query to ‘twitter by politician’ Trump’s Twitter account is not in the first 30 results. This isn’t to say Trump is the only bully on Twitter making a laughing stock of America. Both sides regurgitate words on Twitter which should be more thought out.

Hate can be found on both sides of the political spectrum. The first tweet below is from Republican Donald Trump mocking Chuck Jones. The second tweet is from Democratic news source ABC mocking an 11 year old.

Chuck Jones, who is President of United Steelworkers 1999, has done a terrible job representing workers. No wonder companies flee country!

Pres. Trump had invited Joshua Trump as his State of the Union guest because the White House said the sixth-grader from Wilmington, Delaware, had been bullied because of his last name.
He appeared to doze off during the speech.

I did not intend to go off on this political tangent because not all cyber bulling is political but that is where my internet search took me. The other dark side of social media is the drones it creates. The next time you are out in public be it the bus, subway, or a restaurant look around and count the number of people scrolling through their phones. Now I’m one to use social media but I am cautious as to how much time I spend and what effect it has on my life.

Social media did not just bring about easy bullying. Time is precious. More precious than people treat time. There is no need to scroll through Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, or even MySpace to view the latest trends, fancy things you could buy if you were a billionaire, or even what your ex’s best friends cats owner had for breakfast yesterday. It just doesn’t make sense. It is dumb.
